Tell us about a problem

We'd genuinely like to hear about anything on this site that's hard to use, whether it's a page that doesn't work with your screen reader, text that's hard to read, or a button you can't reach with your keyboard. We'll do our best to fix it.

It helps if you can tell us the page, what you were trying to do, and the device, browser or assistive technology you were using. We'll reply within 5 working days. If you need information from the site in a different format, ask and we'll send it to you in a way that works for you.

Our aim

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 at level AA. In practice this means you should be able to:

• use the whole site with just a keyboard, with a clear focus outline showing where you are
• use a screen reader such as NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver or TalkBack
• zoom in up to 400% without text disappearing off the screen
• read text with enough colour contrast, in both light and dark mode
• switch between light and dark mode, or let the site follow your device's setting
• turn off animation by setting "reduce motion" on your device
• read the figures behind our house price chart as a table

How we check

Every change to the site is tested automatically with two accessibility checkers (axe and HTML_CodeSniffer), and we check colour contrast for every colour combination we use. Before major changes go live we also check pages by hand with a keyboard and a screen reader. Automated tools can't catch everything, which is why your feedback matters.

Known limitations

• Links to other websites. We link to GOV.UK, the National Cyber Security Centre and HM Land Registry. We can't control how accessible those sites are.
• Translations. The translate menu uses Google Translate. Machine translation can be inaccurate, and the translated pages are provided by Google, not by us.
• Contact form spam check. The form uses a small automatic check (ALTCHA) that needs JavaScript. It has no puzzles or images to solve. If it doesn't work for you, please email us instead.
